With a franchise record come-back on the road this year the young Sacramento Kings were at it again tonight at the world famous Madison Square Garden in New York. Tyreke Evans led a vicious fourth-quarter charge and netted two critical free throws with 4.9 seconds left in overtime, and the Kings responded from a late 15-point deficit to upend the Knicks, 118- 11. With the victory the Kings snapped a six game losing streak with one to play before the all-star break.
Evans finished with 27 points, 10 rebounds and six assists and scored 12 during a fourth-quarter spurt in which the Kings outscored the Knicks, 22-7, to tie the game at 105. Kevin Martin, who had 17 in the game, then scored the first nine Sacramento points of overtime to help the Kings snap their 11-game road losing streak. "We just never gave up, kept fighting," Evans said. "The main thing was that we kept pushing the ball, getting easy buckets and getting easy transition points."
Donte Greene finished with 24 points and eight boards for Sacramento, which had lost six straight and improved to just 4-22 on the road this season. Omri Casspi had 18 points and nine rebounds, while Jason Thompson had 12 and 11.
Wilson Chandler had a career-high 35 points for the Knicks, who have lost three straight and six of seven. David Lee provided 21 points and 10 rebounds, and Al Harrington had 17 points in defeat. New York held a 98-83 lead with 7:36 to play, but it was all downhill for the Knicks from there.
Greene hit a pair of threes around an Evans lay-up to quickly cut Sacramento's deficit to seven prior to the six-minute mark. Evans later scored 10 straight points for the Kings, continuously driving past the Knicks' defense to the bucket for four lay-ups and two free throws in a 2 1/2-minute span. His final lay-up of the spurt with 56.9 seconds left had Sacramento down, 105-103. Martin provided all of the offense for the Kings early in overtime, scoring the team's first nine points. His three-pointer with 2:43 left had the visitors ahead by four, 114-110. Sacramento swept the season series, 2-0.
