Playing without starting forward Jason Thompson, who is back east attending a family funeral, the Kings used their 21st different starting lineup tonight while losing at home to the San Antonio Spurs 115-113. Tyreke Evans hit a three at the buzzer to make the deficit 2 but it really wasn’t that close. Thompson had started in every game for the Kings this year.
The Kings dropped their 16th game in the last 18 games, including the last four. The Kings are now just two games over 500 at home at 13-11. Tyreke Evans recorded a game-high 32 points, a team high seven rebounds and a team high eight assists to go with 2 blocks and a steal. It was the third time this season Evans scored 30 or more points. He fell two points shy of matching his career-high 34.
After the game a tired looking Paul Westphal was very complimentary of Evans “Well you can’t really say enough about Tyreke. He’s only 20 years old and he’s got respect throughout the league for the kind of competitor he is, plus the kind of talent and poise he has. He’s an unbelievable player and as this team grows around him, he’s going to get a lot of national attention because he’s the kind of player that can make the team legitimate.”
The Spurs have now defeated the Kings in the last eight meetings. George Hill recorded a career-high-tying 23 points, four rebounds and a game high and career high 9 assists. Dejuan Blair tallied 20 points, making his first 9 attempts. Tim Dunkin recorded his 26th double-double of the season, finishing with 22 points and a game high 13 rebounds.
The Kings will play Phoenix on Friday night at Arco Arena
