The Sacramento Kings were on their way to snapping a four game losing streak Friday night in Oakland but the Warriors were up for the challenge. The Kings lead by 18 points in the second half but the Warriors forced 10 4th quarter turnover that lead to 18 Warrior points to win 108-101. Tonight’s comeback win for the Warriors matches their largest comeback of the season. The Warriors have now won three straight games at Oracle Arena and have won 10 of their past 13 home games against the Kings.
Sacramento only scored 15 points in the 3rd quarter which tied a Warriors’ opponent season-low for points scored in a quarter. Golden State is now 8-5 when they outscore their opponent in the third quarter. The Warriors also recorded 32 fast-break points and they are now 8-3 when scoring 28 or more fast-break points.
Monta Ellis recorded his 14th 30 point game of the season and it was the 30th time in his career. Ellis has scored 30 plus in eight of his past 11 games and is averaging 30 points, just under 6 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals during that stretch.
Corey Maggette scored 20-plus points 12 times in his past 13 games and is averaging 24 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists during that stretch. Ellis and Maggette have both scored 20 plus points 12 times in the past 13 games. They are the first pair of Warrior Teammates to do this since 11/15/89 – 12/12/89 when Chris Mullin and Mitch Richmond both did it in 12 of 13 games.
Tyreke Evans scored 25 points for the Kings. It was Evans 18th 20 plus point performance of the year. He also fouled out for the first time in his career. Ime Udoka recorded a career high 14 rebounds and scored a season high 17 points in his first start of the season for the Kings who was filling in for an injured Donte Green.
Evans said after the game “we came out strong, but they came out in the 2nd half and turned it up. We have to play better defense than we did tonight or we will not win many games. We started getting into a none-on-one contest and got our of the team concept. We can’t continue to use the excuse that we are a young team, because this is the NBA and we can’t have that mindset.”
The Kings return to Sacramento tonight and will face the Nuggets Saturday night at Arco Arena. The Warriors will welcome LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers to Oracle Arena on Monday night.
