Less than 24 hours after losing a heart breaking game on Kobe Bryant’s three-pointer at the buzzer the Kings faced another division leading team, this time it was the well rested Dallas Mavericks. The Kings played with a lot of energy early on and the game was tied at 31 all in the 2nd quarter but that is when the experience on the Mavericks roster took over and they never looked back. Dallas went on an 11-0 run and didn’t trail the rest of the way, at one point building a 17 point lead.
The Mavericks have held nine of their last eleven opponents under 100 points, including their last three. After the game head coach Rick Carlisle talked about the team’s defense “I thought we were really aggressive defensively and smart. We held these guys to 30 percent and that’s pretty good because they’ve been shooting the ball well. They average 108 points in this building so I liked our defensive effort.” Dallas is currently 2-1 on its four-game road trip which concludes tomorrow night in Los Angeles against the Lakers. The Mavericks improved to 12-5 on the road and have the most road wins then any team in the Western Conference. Dirk Nowitzki lead all scorers with 25 pints including a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line.
The Kings were held to just 91 points, they had scored 100 or more points in the last six games and the last eleven home games. Rookie Tyreke Evans returned to the lineup after missing the last three games with a sprained right ankle. Evans finished with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and a steal in 38 minutes. Fellow rookie Omri Casspi finished with his third double-double of the year, with a team high 22 points and a game high and career high 11 rebounds. It was the third straight game in which Casspi has tallied 20 or more points. Casspi was 4-6 from three-point range, having made at least one three-pointer in each of the last 14 games. Jason Thompson recorded his 12th double-double of the year with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
