SAN FRANCISCO--The Giants were fortunate to get this far as they barely got into the post season pile after winning on the last day of the season. The Giants just got by the Padres and San Diego had a big lead going into September and what really made things bad for them they lost three out of four to the Cubs in that final week then they came into play the Giants.
That pretty much sealed any hopes the Pads might have had and they had to sweep and they took the first two games and of course the Giants won the last game to win the West on the last day of the season.
Edgar Renteria the series MVP you could criticize the Giants for signing him to that big contract but he really came through in the World Series and was the MVP and we also understand from other players that he was a great person to deal with in the clubhouse.
Renteria was a great individual, the players liked him and he talked about retiring. Whether he comes back next year the Giants don't know yet.In all reality it doesn't look like he won't come back and play for San Francisco but right now it would appear the Giants are looking for a shortstop in Japan.
Buster Posey: First of all he's the biggest reason why the Giants got as far as they did. It's amazing at 23 and the particular people at the World Series were commenting for a rookie catcher he did a tremendous job. Posey just seems to be a great athlete he can hit and he can throw, he has a great arm if you run on him he'll throw you out.
Pitchers seem to respect him, he seems to explain things from behind the plate and get the right signals at the right time. So at 23 he looks like he's 33 and the way he plays the game he looks like he's playing for many years already. Look what he's done for the Giants so all in all he came through this year extremely well.
Tim Lincecum: He really is the team franchise he's young and just think about it, two Cy Young Awards and now a World Series ring. He's been on All-Star games, he's won big games for the Giants including two wins in the World Series.
You really can't ask that much for him when he opened up against the Atlanta Braves he just dominated them with 14 strikeouts and he won again on the final game of the World Series against the Rangers who are a very good hitting team and he just made them look like they're a mediocre hitting team.
The Giants brought Brian Wilson into the ninth but quite honestly Timmy could have finished up the game with that 4-1 win in game five. Lincecum had been dominating and he could have finished up the game easily. What he's done for the Giants is amazing and again without Timmy the Giants aren't in the World Series.
After 52 years the wait is over: It's been since 1954 for a championship for San Francisco and it's been 52 years since 1958 since the team moved to the City that the team has won a championship and it's their first one in San Francisco. For Ken Gimblin he started covering the team in 1963 on a full time basis.
So Gimblin is close to covering this team close to 50 years and Gimblin is one of the oldest regulars in the Giants press box whose covered the team. In those years you think of the people who were around like the old owners we knew Horace Stoneham and Bob Lurie and you think of those people who we liked very much.
Some of the front office people that have been with the Giants, some of the managers that we liked very much over the years and we have a tremendous amount of respect for manager Bruce Bochy not only as a manager but how he handles players.
It's been a long time coming for San Francisco but it's time has come and now the team can hoist the series trophy and boast it's first World's Championship in the City after waiting for 52 years.
