SAN FRANCISCO-In what was beginning to look like a spring training game between the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers got controversial on one swing of the bat.

Dave Roberts singled in Omar Vizquel with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning, as the Giants defeated the Dodgers 6-5 before 33,920 at AT&T Park.

Now to the controversy, Bengie Molina hit what looked like a single off the LEVI’S LANDING wall in right field in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Bruce Bochy decided that he wanted the play looked at by the umpires.

Just like in the NBA, NFL and NHL, Major League recently implemented Instant Replay.

The umpiring crew of Bill Welke, Shawn Rakos and crew chief Tim Welke went into the umpire’s room and looked at the tape.

It was ruled that it was indeed a home run for Molina; however the controversy did not stop there.

After it was originally a single for Molina, Bochy inserted rookie Emmanuel Burris to run for Molina at first base.

It was ruled that Burris entered the game as a pinch runner, and he ran the remaining 270 feet for what turned out to be the 16th home run of the season for Molina.

Unfortunately, since Burris was announced as a pinch runner he can no longer play in the game, due to the fact that he was inserted into the game as a pinch runner.

After discovering that Burris was indeed inserted into the game, and was unable to return, Bochy and the Giants played the game under protest.

Burris was eventually credited with the run scored, and the two RBI’s were credited to Molina, giving him 95 on the season.

Brad Hennessey went six innings, giving up two runs on six hits, while walking two and also striking out two.

The only runs Hennessey gave up were on a two-run home run by former Giants second baseman Jeff Kent.

Since the Dodgers clinched the National League West on Thursday afternoon, after the Arizona Diamondbacks lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 12-3 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

Derek Lowe went just three innings, giving up just two hits, while walking not a single batter and striking out two.

NOTES: Noah Lowry will undergo a diagnostic arthroscopy on Tuesday morning on the posterior of his left elbow.

Lowry’s surgery will be performed by Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim team doctor Lewis Yocum.

Lowry sat out the entire season after undergoing surgery on his left forearm due to extertional compartment syndrome.

During the 2007 season, Lowry led the Giants in wins with 14.

Molina was named the winner of the 2008 “Willie Mac” Award, this is the second consecutive season that Molina won the award.

Molina is just the third Giants player to win the award more than once.

Mike Krukow won the award in 1985 and 1986, while J.T. Snow won the award in 1997 and 2004.

Krukow is also the only Giants player besides Molina to win the award in consecutive seasons.
