The San Francisco Giants who started Sunday, eight games out of the wild card chase and seven and half out of first in the NL West were swept by the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park on Sunday afternoon 5-3, in the final game of the three game series, and the Giants last road game of the season.

The Brewers did all their damage on the Giants, in two separate frames picking up two runs in the bottom of the second inning when David Bell hit a two run home run to deep left and took over a from a 1-0 deficit for a 2-1 lead off Giants pitcher Matt Cain.

Then in the bottom of the sixth, with Cain still pitching Mike Rivera hit a three run RBI double to deep left and the Brewers to a 5-2 lead over the Giants.

San Francisco scored one more run in the top of the ninth, when Pedro Feliz singled, scoring Steve Finley to make the final score 5-3, Brewers.

Giants’ starter Matt Cain who took the loss (L, 13-11ERA 4.09) pitched seven innings, five hits, five runs, five walks, seven strike outs, one homer.

For the Brewers, Ben Sheets won (W, 6-7 ERA 4.05) going eight innings, five hits, two runs, six strike outs.

Sheets pitched brilliantly allowing only two Giant runs one in the second and one in the fifth.

JC and Kenny G's Giant footnotes: With the loss the Giants who hoped to get back into the pennant race at the start of the road trip will try to finish up the regular season at home starting Monday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks at AT&T Park.

This will allow the Giants fans a last look at outfielders Moises Alou, Steve Finley and Barry Bonds who more than likely will not return to San Francisco. Giants manager Felipe Alou who was not offered a new contract and who stated earlier in the season that he was interested in coming back to the Giants in 2007 only if the Giants would give him a new deal will more than likely be making good use of his boat for fishing in Florida in the off season and maybe next season too.

Giants’ owner Peter McGowan said he wanted to make an overhaul on the team roster in the off season bringing in newer faces and some younger players after the contracts of the older veterans expire after the regular season.

One player to look forward to coming back for 2007 is Shea Hillenbrand, who more than likely will be the Giants starting first baseman and General Manager Brian Sabean says could be in the first base role for next season.

Matt Cain is expected back. Cain whose had some tough outings in the last few weeks hopes to be back full strength and get his chops down for another successful year in 2007.

With the loss in Milwaukee on Sunday this marked the last road trip for the Giants of the 2006 season and for the veteran players last road trip with the Giants in a Giant uniform.

Last note: Ron Wotus and Dave Righetti, current Giants coaches have been floated as possible successors for Giants managers for next season. Wotus is the top contender for the job as Righetti has been leaning on hanging it up and to stay in his Fremont home as he's been through the years of baseball travel since his pitching days in New York.

Wotus has coached with the Giants since Dusty Baker has been on the club as the manager and Sabean was looking at Wotus when Felipe was being considered for selection as Giants manager three years ago.

Former catcher Bob Brenly name has also surfaced. Brenly who managed in Arizona and has coached in San Francisco and has worked as a Cubs announcer and Fox Sports analyst was mentioned to manage the club. Brenly was very popular in San Francisco he hosted his own radio program following Giants games and was dubbed by sportscaster Bruce MacGowan as "the quote machine".

Brenly would be a popular fit with Giants fans that missed his comments and outspokenness. Brenly also took the Diamondbacks to the World Series and got them a championship.
