There is still a heartbeat left in the Giants.
The Giants snapped a four-game losing streak on Wednesday afternoon, as they got out of Coors Field with a 7-4 win over the Colorado Rockies, coming back from a three-run late-game deficit in the process.
The victory came on the heels of a 12-4 loss to the Rockies Tuesday night, during which relief pitcher Jamey Wright and manager Felipe Alou were tossed from the game. Wright got the early exit in the eighth inning for hitting Colorado’s Matt Holliday, while Alou was ejected for arguing with umpire Rick Reed.
The Giants were in a 3-0 hole in the seventh inning, when their bats started to wake up. With two out in the inning, Moises Alou entered the game to pinch-hit and promptly hit a two-run homer to cut the lead to one.
The next inning, Todd Linden and Shea Hillenbrand led off with singles before Ray Durham hit one over center fielder Cory Sullivan’s head to bring in linden and tie the game. That was just the beginning for the Giants, as Barry Bonds added a pinch-hit RBI single to give them the lead, while catcher Todd Greene tripled to drive in a couple more runs.
Alou, who went 2-for-2 in the game, hit one over Holliday’s head in left field to score San Francisco’s final run and give the Giants a 7-3 lead.
The Rockies scored a run in the eighth, but left-hander Mike Stanton, who has been solid since he arrived in San Francisco, gave up only a single in the ninth to get the save.
The Giants are 3.5 games behind in the National League wild-card lead, while they sit 4 games behind in the NL West chase. They will now head to Milwaukee to face the Brewers in a four-game series before finishing up the season with a homestand against Arizona and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
