It may have taken to the 154th game of the 2008 season, but the San Francisco Giants $126 million man finally reached double figures in victories.

Barry Zito went 7.1 innings, giving up one run on six hits and the Giants defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-1 in the opener of a pivotal three-game series at Dodger Stadium.

With the victory, Zito raised his record to 10-16, and kept the rival Dodgers from lowering their magic number to clinch the National League West even lower.

The Dodgers were able to lower their magic number to six, as the Arizona Diamondbacks lost to the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field by the final score of 3-2.

Bengie Molina got the Giants on the board in the first inning, as he hit a two-run single to center field that scored Randy Winn and Pablo Sandoval, who eluded the tag of Dodgers’ Danny Ardoin at home plate.

Dave Roberts extended the Giants to 3-0 in the top of the third inning, as he singled to score Eugenio Velez, who led off the inning with an infield single, stole second and then scored from third base with two outs.

Sandoval continues to torch major league pitching, as he added a double to his single that he hit in the first inning.

With the double in the top of the fifth inning, Sandoval drove Omar Vizquel and Roberts to lengthen the Giants lead.

Molina followed the Sandoval double with his 15th home run, as the Giants simply torched perennial Giant killer Greg Maddux, who absolutely torched by Giants hitters.

In five innings of work, Maddux gave up seven runs on nine hits, while walking no one and striking out one, as he fell to 7-13 on the season.

Pablo Ozuna broke up Zito’s shutout with one swing of the bat, as he hit a solo home run off of Zito in the bottom of the eighth inning.
