The San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals started the front end of the third game of the three game series Sunday but only got out of the top of the first before heavy rains came at Busch Stadium.

The game was halted for an hour before the umpires ruled that the game would be postponed. The weather forecast for St.Louis called for rain all day and at the rate of the down pour there would be no end in sight for Sunday's game.

The Giants started Sunday's game three games behind first place San Diego in the National League wild card standings. The Cardinals in first place in the Central have a magic number of nine games to clinch the Central.

Jason Isringhausen who is out for the rest of the season for the Cardinals, will be someone the Giants won't have to face if the September 28th rescheduled game becomes necessary to determine a playoff spot. The Giants who are close enough to make it interesting in the playoffs might have to make their hotel reservations as they play at AT&T on Wednesday September 27th against Arizona for a 12:35PM day game then fly to St. Louis for a more than likely day game and then fly back to San Francisco for a Friday night ball game against the Dodgers on the 29th.

Giants’ manager Felipe Alou welcomed the rain out giving his aching players a day off and some rest before playing in Colorado on Monday night, "Maybe we caught a break. Ray (Durham), I had no idea how bad he was. It's hard to tell, but I'm not mad about the rain," said Alou regarding Durham's tendonitis problems in his left knee.

JC and Kenny G's Giant rain out footnotes: Victor Conte who allegedly bragged to an associate that he had knowledge of Barry Bonds taking designer steroids from BALCO the company Conte founded a source had told ESPN the Magazine. The San Francisco Chronicle quoted Bonds as saying he didn't know the clear liquid he was receiving was a designer steroid. Bonds trainer Greg Anderson said he would not jeopardize his friendship with Bonds by giving him the banned drug.

Patrick Arnold who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute anabolic steroids and who will report to prison next week to serve a four month prison sentence gave an interview to Sports Illustrated and denied that he talked about Bonds and any Bonds knowledge that Bonds was using steroids to S.I.

Meanwhile Conte released a statement to members of the media during Saturday's game in St. Louis saying, "It was recently reported that I've made statements to the effect that Barry Bonds had knowledge that he was taking performance enhancing substances, I've stated publicly on several occasions that I did not provide anabolic steroids to Barry. That is the truth, and I stand by those statements. The motive of the unidentified source of this misinformation needs to be questioned. I've never said that Barry came to BALCO to 'get jacked'”, said Conte.

Pitching match ups at Coors Monday night: The Giants will start with Noah Lowry (7-9 ERA 4.19) Lowry has lost his last two decisions loosing his last one to Colorado on September 13th at AT&T 9-8.

The Rockies will start Justin Hampton (0-0 1.80) the Rockies lost in Hampton's last outing 10-6 at AT&T on September 12th. Hampton didn't get the decision.
