The St. Louis Cardinals jumped all over San Francisco Saturday in a four run first inning for a 6-1 win at Busch Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Cards are a tough customer at Busch, improving their home record to 44-29 and reducing their magic number to nine games while holding first place in the Central.
And who else to help the Cards get their second defeat over the Giants none other than slugger Alberto Pujols who ripped a single in the first inning for the Cardinals first run with an RBI, giving St Louis a 1-0 lead.
Then it was Juan Encarnacion who stepped into his 19th homer of the season a three run shot that put St .Louis on top 4-0. The Cards would later go onto score two more runs off reliever Kevin Correia.
Matt Morris, the former Cardinal got tattooed by his old mates. Morris (L, 10-14 4.79 era) went six innings, seven hits, five runs, two walks, three strike outs, one homer.
Cardinals starter Chris Carpenter (W, 15-6 2.79 era) went seven innings, five hits, one run, two walks, and nine strike outs.
Stefani's Giant footnotes: On Friday, Giants outfielder Barry Bonds personal trainer Greg Anderson asked the federal court to release him from Dublin Correctional Prison.
So far Federal Court Judge William Alsup has denied Anderson's request until he answers questions by the prosecution about steroids distribution to Bonds.
Anderson said he already made a previous deal with the Court back in December in exchange for his testimony on steroid distribution he would not sing any more and that he can not be sent back to jail after testifying about distribution.
Alsup sent Anderson back to Jail and he's been there since August 27th. Anderson also agreed to testify about money laundering in exchange for six months jail time three at Dublin Correctional and three at home which he already served. Anderson argued on Friday that he served his time and should not have been sent to jail this time around.
Alsup will not release Anderson until he tells all about his distributing steroids to Bonds. Anderson also did 15 days last August in addition to his jail term in December and the ongoing incarceration he's enduring at this point. Anderson has no intention of blowing Bonds cover whatsoever.
The Giants are now 4.5 games behind first place L.A. in the N.L. West and are three games back behind first place San Diego in the N.L. Wild Card.
The Sunday matchups: Jonathan Sanchez (3-0 ERA 2.40) will get the call for S.F. The Giants have won the last two games in which Sanchez has started.
The same goes for Cards starter Jeff Weaver (6-14 ERA 5.95) The Cards have also won the last two games in which Weaver has started.
The first pitch at Busch on Sunday 11:15AM PDT.
