The San Francisco Giants will probably want to forget their first ever game at Busch Stadium, the new home of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Brad Hennessey, who was named the starter by manger Felipe Alou after Jason Schmidt, the original starter was unable to go due to a tight back.
Hennessey will also probably want to forget the game also, as the Cardinals just demolished the Giants 14-4 at Busch Stadium.
In just two innings of work, Hennessey gave up six runs, on five hits and surrendered three home runs in drooping his record in his last five starts to 0-3 with a 10.70 earned run average.
Chris Duncan, the son of Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan hit two home runs and Scott Rolen also hit two home runs and the Cardinals continued their quest to their third consecutive division championship.
All in all, Rolen had seven runs batted in, which also included a bases-clearing double.
The 14 runs scored by the Cardinals were their most since defeating the San Diego Padres 15-5 on May 8, 2005.
Pedro Feliz tied his career high in home runs, as he hit his 22nd home run of the season in the top of the seventh inning off of Jeff Suppan.
With the loss to the Cardinals, the Giants now find themselves still in third place in the National League West, and 4 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers won tonight against the second place San Diego Padres at Dodgers Stadium 3-1, and now have a 1.5 game lead over the Padres.
In the Wild Card race, the Giants are now in third place, 2.5 games behind the Padres who have the top spot. Philadelphia is ahead of the Giants, 1.5 games behind the Padres.
Saturday’s Starters: Chris Carpenter (14-6,2.84 era) will be on the mound for the Cardinals, while for the Giants, Matt Morris (10-13, 4.71) will be the starter with first pitch at 1:05PM PDT.
