SAN FRANCISCO--The Giants did extremely well in San Diego obviously one of the games they lost over the weekend could have easily gone either way and going for San Francisco rather than San Diego. This was a big win for San Diego, but their was a 1-0 win that the Giants pulled off and again it could have went either way.

The Padres are going good right now and they have a big road trip that's not going to be easy. The Padres have their hands full. The Pads are a good ball club and they were due for a slump and unfortunately their hitting it now and it doesn't help that most of the remaining games are on the road and they play some good teams.

They face the Reds, Rockies, so it's not going to be an easy schedule for them and they have great pitching but also their hitting has kind of fallen by the way side. For the divisional title right now the Giants biggest threat is not going to be the Padres it's going to be the Colorado Rockies.

The Giants open up against the Dodgers on Tuesday night, unfortunately for the Giants the Dodgers can play loosely because their out of it. The other thing the Giants are going to face is their going to face some pretty good pitching that the Dodgers have. So San Francisco has an uphill battle. Tuesday night Barry Zito will get the start, Zito has not pitched well the bull pen is strong so you can imagine he's going to have a short leash. If Zito doesn't do well, there's plenty of help in the bull pen we think Zito will be out of there if he gets in a jam against these Dodgers.

Zito at the beginning of the year would have been considered a big piece of the puzzle in the Giants rotation, but right now he's not pitching that well but the other starters definitely are and obviously for the Giants that's critical and we know if he pitched like he did early this year then Zito would be a real plus for the Giants.

Right now for Zito he's not doing that well and with this being mid September it's coming down to crunch time and if he if has a couple of rocky innings he's gone. As for the other starters are concerned the plus for the Giants is they have a lot of arms in the bull pen so that's where the plus is right now. So if Zito falters fortunately manager Bruce Bochey can go to the bull pen and he has a pretty strong bull pen.

The other point in this race in the division is that the Rockies are playing extremely well and the Giants head to Denver on September 24th and that's a tough place to play but the Rocks are playing very well and the Giants have been concerned throughout the season about them and we know they have some injuries but right now their very strong and are solid and I could see the Giants having their hands full when they go in there.

So looking at the L.A. series, the Dodgers have some good pitching and the Giants are going to see them and face a pretty good starting staff. The Giants are not too sure about how things are going to pan out for the Brewers series which starts out on September 17th and they'll be in for the weekend but when your in for a tight pennant race for both the divisional title and also the playoffs every game is critical.
