At long last the San Francisco Giants had some relief and snapped a five-game loosing streak in San Diego. After being shutout in extra inning on Sunday by the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0, the Giants had their own 1-0 victory at the hands of starting pitcher Brad Hennessey, with relief help from Armando Benitez.

Hennessey (W, 5-2, ERA 2.71) pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up two hits, one walk and struck out three. Benitez, came in to the game in the bottom of the ninth, and picked up his 14th save of the season, when he gave up one hit, but he shut the door on the Padres, when he had two runners on and struck out Geoff Blum for the final out of the game.

San Diego starter Clay Hensley got the loss (L, 7-10 ERA 4.19) going seven innings, four hits, one run, two walks, and two strike outs.

Eliezer Alfonso who went 1-4 his lone hit was key in the top of the fifth inning at Petco, when Alfonso singled to center to score Shea Hillenbrand for the Giants lone run which was enough for the victory.

The Giants still remain in dead last and are 7.5 games behind first place Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West.

Stefani's Giant footnotes: On Tuesday night, the Giants will start Matt Morris (8-10 ERA 4.75) Morris lost his last three starts the most recent one coming in a 5-3 loss to Arizona on August 9th.

Chris Young will go for San Diego (9-5 ERA 3.84) has lost his last two starts.

First pitch at Petco on Tuesday night is at 7:00PM PDT.
