Things did not go good for the San Francisco Giants from the outset, as the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Giants 5-1 tonight at Chase Field, which broke their two game winning streaks. The Giants record in the month of August is now 3-4 with the loss tonight.

In the bottom of the first, Mountain View native Eric Byrnes got to Jamey Wright for a leadoff triple, and scored the first run on a single by Orlando Hudson for the Dbacks. After a walk to Luis Gonzalez and after back-to-back groundouts by Chad Tracy and Shawn Green, Hudson scored the second run of the inning.

Former Stanford star Carlos Quentin then drove in Gonzalez with the third Diamondbacks run of the inning.

The Giants cut the lead down to 3-1, as Randy Winn hit a solo home run off of Juan Cruz in the top of the third inning, which proved to be the only Giants run of the evening.

The Diamondbacks put the game away, as they scored an additional two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Gonzalez drove in Hudson on a ground ball.

Hudson tripled to centerfield to lead off the Diamondbacks half of the fifth inning.

After singles by Chad Tracy and Quentin, Stephen Drew then singled in Tracy with the final Diamondbacks run of the evening.
