Other than history, Giants-Dodgers doesn't have much else

The storied rivalry between the Giants and Dodgers is abundant with unforgettable memories. There was Bobby Thomson's “Shot Heard 'Round the World” that won the pennant for the Giants back in 1951.
Thirty-one years later, then-Giants second baseman Joe Morgan's home run on the last game of the season ended the Dodgers' hopes for the National League West title.
These days, these two teams don't generate much drama, partially because the division as a whole hasn't been very good in recent years and neither team has been in contention for the division title in quite some time.
However, the Dodgers are pulling out all the stops to put an end to that, as indicated by the team's trading for slugger Manny Ramirez, who has hit four home runs in his six games with his new club. With that said, the in-state archenemies will have another go-round this weekend for a three-game set at AT&T Park, with the Giants pretty much long gone from the NL West race.
The home team will send Barry Zito, who is coming off a brilliant eight-inning shutout performance at San Diego, to the mound to face Dodgers right-hander Brad Penny, who last pitched on June 14, when he gave up seven runs and seven hits to the Detroit Tigers before going on the disabled list.
On Saturday, Kevin Correia will take the hill for the Giants against LA's Hiroki Kuroda, whom the Giants beat on July 28 in Los Angeles. The next day, Matt Cain and Chad Billingsley, who looked like an absolute stud in shutting down the Giants last week, will square off to finish out the weekend series.
