The San Francisco Giants took Game one of a three game series from the Arizona Diamondbacks by the score of 8-4 at Chase Field in Phoenix on Monday night, which marks the start of a ten game road trip for the Giants against Western Division teams.

The Giants drew first blood in the top of the first inning when Barry Bonds grounded out to first and scored Omar Vizquel from third base, making the score 1-0 Giants. It wasn’t to last as Arizona scored in the bottom of the 1st, when Luis Gonzalez doubled, scoring Eric Byrnes, tieing the score 1-1. Chad Tracey then followed up with a single, scoring Gonzalez, and the score was 2-1 Arizona.

Arizona took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third when Tracy singled home Conor Jackson.

San Francisco played for keeps when Pedro Feliz ripped his 19th homer of the season off of Enrique Gonzalez to get the Giants down by one run, 3-2.

The Giants went to work in the top of the sixth as Moises Alou hit a two run homer his 13th of the season. Then Ray Durham hit out his 19th and Feliz went yard again for number 20 and by the end of the inning the Giants had a 6-3 lead.

In the top of the seventh pitcher Jason Schmidt belted his first homer of the year to make it 7-3 Giants.

Shea Hillenbrand in the 8th ripped his second homer of the year to make it 8-3. The D-Backs would add one more run in the bottom of the 9th, in an attempt to get back in the game, but they would end the night four runs short.

For the Giants Schmidt gets the win (W, 9-7 ERA 3.15) and Jeff Bajenaru for the D-Backs gets the loss (0-1 ERA 36.00. It was Bajenaru who made rookie mistake pitches to Giant hitters when the Giants hit three homers in the top of the sixth.
