There is a pitcher that the San Francisco Giants would love to probably see either retire, or get traded to an American League team.
That pitcher is Greg Maddux, who entering the game was 29-13 versus the Giants.
Maddux pitched six innings, and drove in a run, as the San Diego Padres salvaged the finale of this three-game series with a 4-1 victory over the Giants at Petco Park.
With the victory, Maddux raises his career record against the Giants to 30-13 and is now 7-0 versus the Giants in his last 13 starts.
Maddux last lost to the Giants on June 9, 2003, when the Giants defeated Maddux 9-2, while he was pitching for the Atlanta Braves.
The Giants scored their only run of the afternoon in the first inning, when Randy Winn singled in Emmanuel Burris.
Maddux helped out his own cause, as he singled in Nick Hundley in the bottom of the second inning that tied up the game.
Hundley drove in the eventual winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning, when he hit a sacrifice fly that scored Brian Giles.
Giles put the Padres up by two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, as he singled off of Alex Hinshaw, who came on to replace starter Kevin Correia.
Kevin Kouzmanoff put the final run on the board in the bottom of the eighth inning, as he hit a solo home run off of Osiris Matos.
Correia went 6.1 innings, giving up two runs and three hits, while walking four and striking out three; however he lost for the sixth time this season.
Trevor Hoffman came on in the top of the ninth inning, and notched his 23rd save of the season and the 557th save of his career.
