SAN FRANCISCO – The Giants try tomorrow to stop a three-game skid when they send starter Barry Zito (4-12) to the mound to face the marginal hitters of the Washington Nationals at AT&T park.
Over the weekend, San Francisco were swept by the Brewers during a three-game homestand after the All-Star break. They generated little to no offense and failed to produce much-needed support for starters.
The Nationals (38-62) are currently the worst team in National League with a .384 winning percentage. They are 15 games behind the National East-leading Mets and Phillies.
The Giants are not faring any better at 8 ½ games behind the Dodgers and the Diamondbacks. They could use a good series against the Nats to climb back into the race for the National League West division title.
