Since major league baseball moved to the West Coast in 1958, when the San Francisco Giants moved to the Bay Area from New York, one day in the middle is always celebrated.

Yes, the All-Star Game is in the same month; however Baseball on the Fourth of the July is always special and is remembered around the major leagues.

In the 53 seasons since the Giants moved to the Bay Area, they have been in town on July 4 on 28 of those occasions.

On the other side of the Bay Area, where the Oakland A’s have called home since 1968, they been home just 17 times on the Fourth of July in the 43 years in Oakland.

During the 2005 season, the A’s did not even play on July 4th.

Also, during the same time that the Giants and the A’s have called the Bay Area home, both teams have actually been on the road on the Fourth of July.

Those seasons were the 1979, 1980 and this past Fourth of July, when the Giants were in Colorado to face the Rockies and the A’s played in Cleveland against the Indians.
