Tim Lincecum became only the 13th Giant pitcher to join the National League All-Star game tomorrow at Yankee Stadium. In Chicago he tied Juan Marichal’s mark of 137 strikeouts before the All-Star break.

"It’s an honor," Lincecum said, "especially considering where it’s being played this year in New York, where that stadium is going down in a little bit. I’m just happy to be there, happy to be on the team. I’ll just try to take it in all at once."

Lincecum (11-2, 2.69) went eight innings against the Cubs on Sunday, striking out nine Chicago batters and giving up one earned run.. The Giants snapped a six-game losing streak and avoided a sweep by beating the Cubs, 4-2, at Wrigley Field.

In the top of the third inning, Lincecum whacked a career-first RBI triple into right field past a daydreaming Mark DeRosa who let the ball skid under his clove and roll back to the warning track, giving the Giants a 1-0 lead.

Manager Bruce Bochy was a little reluctant to send his ace to the mound on Tuesday to face the slugging lineup of the America League All-Star team.

"It says how good he is," Bochy said. "We all know what a talent he is. He has a tremendous makeup. He’s a great competitor and any time he gets in real tough situation, he makes great pitches.
