Zito avoids loss, but Giants don't

There are two bits of good news that came out of New York on Thursday. The first is that Barry Zito pitched fairly well for the second straight time and didn't add to his already-substantial loss count, while the other is that the Giants actually scored runs for the first time in three days.
That's pretty much it. From that point, there was really nothing else positive to take from the Mets beating the Giants, 7-3, and sweeping them out of Shea Stadium.
Zito left the game after the fifth inning with the score tied, but the Mets feasted on young reliever Sergio Romo in the seventh inning, scoring four runs, two of those coming from a two-run homer by Fernando Tatis.
The Giants could not recover from that onslaught, as the Mets bullpen was once again lights-out, as it was while firing a flawless four innings on Wednesday. This time around, Carlos Muniz, Scott Schoeneweis, Duaner Sanchez and Billy Wagner combined to give up a hit and a walk.
Randy Winn went 1-for-2 on Thursday with a two-run double in the fifth inning to tie the score at 3-3 and spare Zito from his 13th loss of the season, while rookie and Sacramento native John Bowker went 2-for-3 with a walk.
