The San Francisco Giants captured their second straight victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday night, 4-2 at Bank One Ballpark in Phoenix. It was San Francisco's first two-victory string in 11 contests and they are now 10 games behind first place San Diego and fourth in the National League West.

Giants outfielder Moises Alou went 3-for-4 with two RBI and improved his average to .326, a team best. Omar Vizquel went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. The Giants opened up the offense in the top of the third inning when Alou singled to left to drive in Vizquel and J.T. Snow to go up 2-0.

With the score tied 2-2 in the top of the seventh, Vizquel singled to center to score Jason Ellison for a 3-2 lead. The Giants added their final run of the game in the ninth when Michael Tucker singled to right to score Todd Linden for the 4-2 outcome.

Starter Kirk Rueter went five innings, surrendered three hits, two runs, and four walks. Reliever Jason Christiansen picked up the win improving his record to 4-1. Tyler Walker got out of a two-on, none-out jam in the ninth to earn his 11th save.

Stefani's Giant footnotes: With the second straight victory, the Giants look forward to potentially doing something they haven't don't in a while, and that's a sweep when they face Arizona tonight at 6:40 p.m. PDT at the BOB.

The Giants will be throwing Noah Lowry (4-7, 5.25 ERA) and he'll face the D-backs' ex-Giant Shawn Estes (6-5, 3.75). The Giants will move onto San Diego after the conclusion of Thursday night's game.

In talking with talk show hosts on Sportstalk who remember the late Dick Dietz, the former Giants catcher who passed away Wednesday in Georgia at 63 years of age, we are reminded of his catching with the 1971 Western Division champions and making the 1970 All-Star team, representing the National League.

Dietz was at bat when Pete Rose collided with American League catcher Ray Fosse in the famous bowl-over at home plate. Dietz will be remembered when the Giants return to San Francisco during the week of July 4th and pay tribute to him at SBC Park.
