CHICAGO-Who knew that it would have to take a road trip to Wrigley Field for the San Francisco Giants to find their bats.
Pat Burrell went 3-for-5 with two singles and a home run, while Chris Stewart picked up his first multi-hit game of his career and the Giants defeated the Chicago Cubs 13-7 for their sixth win in a row before 39,157 at Wrigley Field.
The 13 runs for the Giants are the most by the team since they scored 13 runs against the Houston Astros, as Ryan Sadowski shutout the Astros by the score of 13-0 on July 3, 2009 at AT&T Park.
Miguel Tejada also picked up three hits for the Giants, as he continues his hot hitting and is hitting .293 (17-for-58) while picking up hits in 11 of his last 16 games.
Despite allowing a season-high six runs, Ryan Vogelsong was able to pickup his sixth win of the season against just one loss.
Three of those six runs were unearned, while Vogelsong also allowed six hits, while walking four and striking out six in five innings of work.
“Gave up three unearned runs,” said Giants manager Bruce Bochy.
This was just the second time this season that Vogelsong allowed three earned runs or more, as Vogelsong picked up his second win of the season against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
“Those guys came out swinging today,” said Vogelsong, who saw his earned runs average jump from 1.86 to 2.09
Aaron Rowand got the scoring in the first inning after he walked, and beat a great play at the plate to give the Giants a quick 1-0 lead, as Aubrey Huff picked up the second of three singles in the first inning.
Unfortunately, that would not be the score for long, as the Cubs scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to tie up the game.
The Giants retook the lead in the top of the third inning, as they scored three more runs off of former Northgate (Walnut Creek) pitcher Doug Davis.
It was not a good day for Davis at all, as he gave up a career-high tying 10 runs on 12 hits, walking three and striking out four.
The last time Davis gave up 10 runs was in his first major league appearance for the Texas Rangers against the Toronto Blue Jays on August 9, 1999.
After scoring three runs in the top of the third inning, the Giants broke the game wide open, as they scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a commanding 11-3 lead.
That would be the score for just one-half inning, as the Cubs picked up three more runs, as it was a Bill Hall error that led to those three runs.
Nate Schierholtz picked up a pinch hit single that scored Hall, as pushed the Giants lead back to six runs.
Those pesky Cubs would not go away, as Aramis Ramirez scored the Cubs final run of the afternoon on a Blake DeWitt single.
Miguel Tejada put the finishing touches on the scoring in the top of the ninth inning, as he hit his second home run of the season and first since April 8, when he homered in the home opener off of Jake Westbrook of the St. Louis Cardinals.
