A two-out RBI single by Shannon Stewart in the bottom of the 11th inning gave the Minnesota Twins a 4-3 interleague victory over the visiting San Francisco Giants June 14 at the Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis.

Michael Cuddyer led off the Twins' 11th with a broken-bat single off losing pitcher Jeff Fassero (1-4), advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brent Abernathy, and, two batters later, scored when Stewart blooped a single to shallow right-center field off Giants interim closer Tyler Walker.

Twins starter Johan Santana, the 2004 AL Cy Young Award winner, surrendered three runs, six hits and struck out seven in eight innings of work. Jesse Crain (6-0) worked a scoreless 11th to get the win.

Jesse Foppert, making his first major league start in nearly two years after having elbow ligament replacement surgery in 2003, gave up two hits -- including a solo home run by Cuddyer -- in the first five innings. He gave up three runs -- two earned -- and issued five walks in 5 2/.3 innings.

Fassero took the loss after Scott Munter and Jason Christiansen combined for 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for San Francisco.

Ray Durham had three hits with a homer, a double and two runs for the Giants, who've lost 15 of their last 17 games. Santana fell behind thanks to Durham's homer and RBI singles by Pedro Feli and Omar Vizquel.

Cuddyer had three hits and a home run for the Twins, who rallied from a 3-1 deficit. Torii Hunter avoided a pickoff tag by Feliz and scored on a sac fly by Justin Morneau in the sixth inning, cutting the Giants lead to 3-2.

Minnesota tied the game at 3-3 when Cuddyer singled and Luis Rodriguez walked to chase Foppert. With two out and the bases loaded, Juan Castro grounded to Vizquel at shortstop, but Durham dropped Vizquel's throw, allowing Cuddyer to score.

The Giants (25-37) are 12 games under .500 for the first time since they finished the 1996 campaign at 68-94.

GIANTS-TWINS NOTES: SF outfielder Todd Linden made his 2005 debut after being called up from Fresno (PCL) Monday, going 0-for-5 with three K's ... Lance Niekro was scratched as the Giants' DH after fouling a ball off his left big toe during batting practice ... Twins OF Jacque Jones extended his hitting streak to 13 games ... Castro is hitless in his last 14 at-bats ... Until 1960, the old Minneapolis Millers of the American Association served as a Giants' Triple A farm club. Before the Giants moved to San Francisco in 1958, they gave serious consideration to relocating to the Twin Cities.
