Giants playing better team baseball

Randy Johnson earned his position as one of the top 25 pitchers ever in major league history by winning his 300th game. And Tim Liccecum won his fifth in a row, against Miami.

The combination of solid pitching and adequate hitting has put the Giants a few games above 500, pretty much like the team looked like before the season. A good team getting better.

It would be nice to catch the Dodgers with this improving team. Maybe when Manny Ramirez returns, the great Dodger chemistry may disappear. Only eight games back, anything can happen.

Another thing... Tuesday is the major league baseball draft. This year, like every year, there is an abundance of talent available.

In the Sacramento area, there are two catchers of some renown. Max Stassi (5-10, 205) of Yuba City and Andrew Susac (6-1, 200) of Jesuit will be selected in the first thirty players chosen. They are solid prospects who should play major league baseball.

This road trip has been productive for the Giants, who are .654 at Pac Bell Park. They return home after the Arizona series, and they should make a move to catch the Dodgers.
