SAN FRANCISCO--Giants first baseman Buster Posey on Saturday had three hits and three RBIs and then on Sunday went 3-5 with an RBI still after two games back in the Majors you have to remember that Posey is extremely young when they brought him up the Giants don't want to put pressure on him and they have him batting sixth which makes sense.
Posey hits well he's not a power hitter and the hits that he picked up were singles but that was enough, he seems very relaxed but the Giants had to be careful how they brought him up and just because he did well remember the pitcher he faced for Arizona on Saturday Billy Buckner (0-3) wasn't one of the best pitchers in the league.
Just because Posey did well doesn't mean he'll continue to be doing that but in the long scheme of things he's going to help the Giants but he's still young and if the Giants are wise they'll bring him up slowly and bring him up when there isn't a lot of pressure and he could be successful particularly at the plate.
Local talk show host Ralph Barbieri said that the Giants need more hitting and Posey could have come up early and helped out, our response to that is how much baseball did Barbieri play? Did he work in the game? Did he work for a team? and until you do that then you really don't know what the hell you’re talking about.
Also a lot of callers on Barbieri's show said that Posey was ready to go earlier but we have the same answer, did these callers play in the big leagues?, did they work in the front office of a Major League club?, callers are very passionate and some are extremely intelligent but have they really played the game? No.
It's very important and they might criticize Giants General Manager Brian Sabean for some of the things he's done but basically he's a baseball general manager and when you have young players you have to be careful how you bring them up. One of the things we keep stressing and they have stressed it to me is the mental part is so important.
The way the Giants handled pitcher Tim Lincecum is a good example, they took their time with him and the Giants have to do the same things with Mr.Posey. He's been successful so far but if he went back down again we wouldn't be too surprised. The other thing is he's just inexperienced and he got some experience playing in the minor leagues.
When you have young talented players you want to bring them up slowly look what the Nationals did for their young pitcher Stephen Strasburg he's suppose to be unbeatable. He probably will be in the major leagues shortly but they didn't just rush him and throw him in there.
Barbieri is not a great baseball expert and we'll just leave it at that. We like his broadcast partner Mr.T, Tom Tolbert who played with the Golden State Warriors, he's an athlete and has played the game and when you do listen to him Tolbert does say intelligent things and were not really sure if Ralph really does.
