Henry Blanco gave the New York Mets something that was last accomplished by the team during the 2001 season.
Blanco hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning off of Guillermo Mota, as the Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants 5-4 at Citi Field.
This was the second game in a row that a Mets catcher put an end to a game via walk off fashion, the last time the Mets turned this trick was on July 28-29, 2001, when Robin Ventura and Mike Piazza did so at Shea Stadium.
Rod Barajas hit a two-run walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning off of Sergio Romo, as the Mets defeated the Giants 6-4 in the opener of the three-game series.
Aubrey Huff drove in two runs for the Giants, and just missed a three-run home run in the top of the 10th inning, when Jeff Francoeur caught the ball on the warning track with two outs.
Pablo Sandoval put an end to a 0-for-15 slump, as he singled in the top of the fourth inning and added a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning.
Todd Wellemeyer made his first start since April 27, and gave up four runs on three hits in just 4.1 innings of work.
Even though this was his first start since the end of April, Wellemeyer pitched three innings of relief on Sunday at home against the Colorado Rockies.
