Giants improving as season progresses

The San Francisco Giants really are playing better. They went from last to the middle of the pack.
Last week they were just beginning to play as a team. Teams 'jell' during every season.
Most of us would agree the Giants are in a state of development. That kind of a team is always
interesting. There is a lot of water passing under the bridge, we'll see.
And the NL West is not the best group in the majors. You have to think the Giants have a pretty
good chance to finish first. It's the pitching that is the 'wild card', the Giants appear to have
enough, at least for the NL West.
A big name Giant passed on just a few weeks ago. Carroll Whitey Lockman played mostly first
base and right field. He played at San Francisco in 1957, the first year on the west coast.
He played in old Seals Stadium, the 'Stick hadn't been built yet. Lockman stayed around long
enough to get almost 1700 hits.
Pac Bell Park is still the best venue in the major leagues.
