SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco Giants were beaten
by the Milwaukee Brewers 8-5 Sunday before 36,604 fans
at SBC Park. While it was a very entertaining contest
in perfect baseball weather, the story of the game was
how the Giants starter gave up six runs in five
innings pitched. That put the Giants in a hole.
Catching up proved to be impossible.
Says Giants Manager Felipe Alou, "We didn't put guys
away. We might come back."
The Brewers scored early and often off Giants starter
Jerome Williams, who gave up nine hits and six runs in
five innings, including two home runs.
As Alou said, "Jerome had no stuff today. He didn't
throw the ball real good."
The game was an offensive show for both sides - the
Brewers had 13 hits and the Giants had 11, including a
home run from Moises Alou.
Birthday boy Omar Vizquel hit for a single, double,
and triple, but teamwise, this was not a good display
of baseball. The Gaints left 13 runners on base, a sin
that will cause you to lose often.
While Alou was very disappointed the Brewers won the
series, he said, "we don't want to blame anybody.
We'll see which way were going to go."
The Giants have three games to play on this homestand.
San Diego comes in Monday and Tuesday nights, both at
7:15 p.m., and a 12:35 p.m. start on Wednesday.
