SAN FRANCISCO-Albert Pujols waited all weekend to finally get going and did he going in the series finale against the San Francisco Giants.

Pujols hit a solo home run off of Matt Cain in the top of the first inning, and added two singles after the home run and the St. Louis Cardinals salvaged the finale of the three-game series with a 2-0 victory over the Giants before 40,230 at AT&T Park.

Entering the game, Pujols was a robust 5-for-8 against Cain in his career and added to that total, as he went three-for-three against the right-hander.

Former Giants pitcher Brad Penny, who signed with the Cardinals during the off-season went 7.2 innings, not allowing a run on eight hits, while not walking a batter and striking out two.

On the season, Penny is now 3-0 with a minuscule 0.94 earned run average.

Cain went five innings, allowing two runs on six hits, walking one and striking out four, as he lost for the first time this season.

Pablo Sandoval and Andres Torres each picked up three hits for the Giants, who were trying for their first three-game sweep of the Cardinals from June 29- July 1, 2001.

This was the sixth multi-hit game of the season for Sandoval, the most by a Giants player this season.

Over their last eight games, the Giants are now a measly 5-for-58 with runners in scoring position and have scored just 20 runs during those eight games, an average of 2.5 runs per game.

Juan Uribe did not start the game due to stiffness in his right elbow, but was able to pinch-hit if need be and was in the on-deck circle when Andres Torres grounded out to Skip Schumaker to end the game.

Aubrey Huff came off the bench, and did not start for the first time this season, leaving Sandoval as the only Giants player to start all 18 games.

Travis Ishikawa made his first start of the season at first base, and 0-for-4, dropping his batting average to .200 on the season.
