The chanted Bar-roids over and over, they tossed a syringe and the Giants slugger Barry Bonds said after being taunted by the San Diego fans on opening night at Petco Park "Hey if they want to embarrass themselves then that's on them. That has nothing to do with me at all. I just have to play baseball,” said Bonds.
Bonds looking exhausted and somewhat stressed but tried not to show it during the post game press conference. Bonds addressed the syringe being tossed on the field in his direction, "I just picked it off the field so no one would get hurt." said Bonds.
Signs everywhere signs. Bonds had to face the signs by the fans as well some said "Barry do those roids itch?" "Bonds is the greatest hitter of this era. The word hitter had an asterisks and was replaced by cheater".
The chants and boos at Babo all game long left a bad taste in former Padre Mark Sweeny's mouth, "That's pretty stupid." Sweeney who played with the Padres during the 2005 division winning season was really disappointed with the fans who he said were actually the best in the National League a group of good sports but he stopped from adding more fuel to the former fans who cheered him all last season.
"That's a little bit much .If you want to heckle, that's one thing. But throwing something like that on the field, that's taking it a little bit too far." said the Giants center fielder Randy Winn.
The Giants scored only once, Bonds doubled in the second inning to center and scored on Lance Niekro's single to center. After that that's all she wrote for the Giants scoring efforts after that the Padres scored a run in the bottom of the second to tie it and the Pads added another run in the bottom of the fifth when Young hit a sacrifice fly to left scoring Barfield for the go ahead fun.
The Padres added gravy in the last of the 6th and 8th with two runs in each inning for the 6-1 total.
The Giants will try it again all over on Tuesday night at Petco they'll be throwing Matt Morris (0-0) against the Padres Shawn Estes (0-0) first pitch is at 7:00PM.
