Scary Barry's Commentary: Barry Bonds Joins The "500" Club And Life Goes On
The Giants are
trailing the hated Los Angeles Dodgers in the bottom of the eighth inning
2 to 1,with Rich Aurilla in scoring position at third base with no outs. Now
the scene is set for a dramatic event.Up to the plate steps Barry Bonds, with
Giant's legends Willie Mays and Willie McCovey waiting in the wings.Barry
needs only one more homerun to shake the monkey off his back and get on with
his season.Dodger relief pitcher Terry Adams gets behind in the count 2 and
0,throw an inside slider and the rest is history.Homerun number 500 is
launched into the darkness of McCovey cove.It doesn't get any better for
baseball. For a short period of time it wasn't about money. It was a small
boy's dream becoming a reality in his adulthood.Barry Bond's finest moment
yet, wearing the uniform once worn by his dad Bobby Bonds and his Hall of
Fame Godfather Willie Mays.As a lifetime Giants fan the Scary one was
thrilled. The story was a front page headline in all the local newspapers, but
I had to put it into perspective. In the real world a young man in Livermore
had died of Meningitis, overseas Israeli and Palestinean blood was being
shedd and after 51 years, this oldtimer couldn't afford to buy a house in "
The City " unless I robbed ten banks. For a moment there is joy,but then life
goes on!
