Stanford defeats USC

The Stanford Cardinal(11-2,1-0 PC-12) hosted the University of Southern California Trojans (5-9, 0-1 PAC-12) at Maples Pavilion before a crowd of 5731 fans on the last day of 2011. The Cardinal did not disappoint as the beat the Trojans by a score of 51-53.

The Stanford Cardinal got off to a slow start in the first half. The University of Southern California Trojans took an early 10-2 lead in the first 4:20 minutes of play. The Cardinal got it going when freshman guard Chasson Randle made a couple of buckets to get Stanford back in the game. The Trojans led by Alexis Moore and Byron Wesley kept SC in the game. Cardinal coach Johnny Dawkins had a bigger lineup in the middle of the half to negate USC's big men Dewayne Dedmon and James Blacszyk. The first half ended with the Cardinal ahead by a score of 31-25. Aaron Bright, Josh Owens and Chasson Randle led the way for the Cardinal. Stanford was 12-25 from the floor while USC was 10-23. The Cardinal out rebounded the Trojans 13-11.

The Cardinal took an eleven point lead early in the second half. The Trojans came back and narrowed the gap to 3 points with 6:15 left in the game but Aaron Bright made two three point shots to put Stanford ahead for good. Stanford wins 51-43.

Notes: Aaron Bright led the Cardinal attack with 16 points and Josh Owens added 12 for the Cardinal. Stanford now has a record of 12-2 for the season and is 2-0 in conference play. For the Trojans, they were led by Alexis Moore who had 12 points and big Dewayne Dedmon who scored 10. USC falls to 5-10 for the year and 2-0 in the PAC-12.
