The Penn State Nittany Lions rolled through the NCAA Women’s volleyball tournament in Sacramento as if it were their destiny. A third-seed entering the matches, the Nittany Lions lost only three games in six tournament matches, on their way to dispatching the top-seeded Stanford Cardinal Saturday night at Arco Arena in Sacramento.
The victory marks the second NCAA Championship for Penn State, ironically their first title was also at the expense of the Cardinal, back in 1999.
Stanford fell behind quickly by two games, but fell just a little short in the decisive fifth game. Penn State finished off the Cardinal, scoring six straight points, including four kills to ice the victory and the title.
