It was definitely the way that Trent Johnson wanted to start the season.
The Stanford Cardinal made it three straight victories, as the Cardinal were led by Anthony Goods 23 points and defeated the Santa Barbara Gauchos 67-48 to win the Basketball Travelers Classic at Maples Pavilion.
This is the first time since the 2003-2004 season that the Cardinal started the season with three straight victories.
That season, the Cardinal win their first 28 games before they were defeated by the Washington Huskies at Bank of America Arena in March of 2004.
The Cardinal would make it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where they were upset by the Alabama Crimson Tide, in what proved to be the final game coached by Mike Montgomery.
Robin Lopez scored 12 points, blocked two shots and had two steals.
Robin’s twin brother Brook was only able to watch the game, as he is academically ineligible for the fall quarter and will not be able to play for the Cardinal until they face the Santa Clara Broncos on December 19.
On Friday night, the Cardinal defeated the Harvard 111-56, spoiling the debut of new Crimson head coach Tommy Amaker.
Goods scored 17 points, as the Cardinal scored the most points for the Cardinal in a game since scoring 117 against UC Irvine in 1990.
Also, the 55-point margin of victory was the third highest in school history.
In his first game as a member of the Cardinal, Drew Shiller scored 18 points, as the Cardinal record to 9-0 all-time versus the Crimson.
Shiller is a transfer from the university of San Francisco, where he played for Jessie Evans.
Just one night later, the Cardinal were led by Lawrence Hill and Shiller, who each scored 15 points and the Cardinal made two straight with a 97-58 victory over the Northwestern State Demons.
Mitch Johnson added 14 points and dished off four assists.
Fred Washington also scored 14 points, and Kenny Brown added 10 for the Cardinal.
