Washington’s Quincy Poindexter bagged 19 points Friday, leading the Huskies past Stanford 79-64 in the semifinals of the Pac-10 men’s basketball tournament at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
No. 3-seed Washington (23-9) will face top-seeded California in the championship game Saturday for the league’s automatic NCAA tournament bid. It’s the Huskies’ first Pac-10 championship appearance since 2005. Cal last reached the league title game in 2006.
Trailing Poindexter in the Washington scoring column was Isiah Thomas with 17 points and Justin Holiday with 11. The Huskies led the entire game while beating the Cardinal for the sixth consecutive time.
Washington outrebounded the Cardinal 42-34, with Matthew Bryan-Amaning leading the Huskies with 11 boards.
As he has most of the season, Landry Fields led the Cardinal with 20 points and 14 rebounds, and Emmanuel Igbinosa added 11 points. Stanford had a miserable shooting night, hitting 31 percent from the floor – 26 percent on 3-pointers.
The Cardinal ended its season at 14-18.
