At Maples Pavilion, the visiting California Golden Bears were victorious over the Stanford Cardinal, 71-61, as they finished the regular season with their biggest win streak of the season at 4.

It was California's first win at Maples since January 3, 2007 and the Golden Bears' 22nd time they scored 70 points or more this season. The point margin was the closest in a victory since Arizona State.

Stanford started the game with a 5-0 run. Off a steal by Jarrett Mann, Landry Fields received the ball and passed it left to Jeremy Green who banked a 3. Fields increased the lead from the center of the court. The Golden Bears then, went on a 9-0 run, with 7 of the points coming from Jamal Boykin. California also put together runs of 4-0 and 6-0. Almost everytime the Cardinal made a basket, the Golden Bears answered. The Cardinals put together an 8-0 run down the stretch, however, to leave the floor only 4 points behind. Fields had 6 of Stanford's 8 points, including a play in which off a missed 3 by Green, Fields got the rebound and put in the bucket.

The Cardinal didn't start of the second half too hot, committing 2 turnovers within the first minute. However, Green made his second 3 of the game at 18:13. The teams combined for four 3's in just over 2 minutes. Green's second 3 of the second half brought the game to within one, 40-41. Stanford's Jack Trotter dunked the ball to tie the game at 44 apiece at 13:46. The tie was short-lived, however, as Theo Robertson made a basket and was fouled, making his one free throw. Trotter almost duplicated Robertson, making a layup, but missed the free throw on the other end. After that, California put together a 6-0 run. Jorge Gutierrez was helped off the floor after landing on Trotter's foot at 7:39. Shiller made it 57-61 at 4:06 with a 3-pointer. It was 59-62 after Fields made a layup. Stanford almost held on to the ball on the opposite end, but off a missed 3 by Jerome Randle, Boykins was able to get the offensive rebound and put it in. This was followed by a Cardinal turnover. Patrick Christoper then made a 3-pointer to make it 59-67 at 1:37, which essentially put the game beyond reach.

Fields was the game-leading scorer with 25 points with 12 points, almost equaling his season high. The biggest lead in the game went to the Golden Bears with a 12-point lead at 4:57 of the first.

Game notes: Stanford Seniors Chris Ebersole, Tavita Pritchard, Emmanuel Igbinosa, Drew Shiller, and Fields were recognized in a special pre-game ceremony. Fields has now hit double-digit points in all 30 games. The Cardinal's Matei Daian's points were his first since January 30 and Da'Veed Dildy missed both his free throws but was on the floor for 13 minutes, which last happened versus Washington. Stanford's status in the Pac-10 tournament comes down to the Oregon versus Washington State game. An Oregon victory would most likely put the Cardinal out of the in-game. The extended season begins March 10.
