There is an old adage that records are made to be broken.

With a 82-79 victory by the Stanford Cardinal over the Washington Huskies, the Cardinal won their school record 15th home game of the season.

This was also the 15th consecutive win for the Cardinal over the Huskies at Maples Pavilion, a facility that they have not won in since 1993.

Brook Lopez scored 21 points, as the Cardinal won for the tenth time in 11 games and move their record 23-4 on the season, and 12-3 in conference play.

Anthony Goods added 16 points for the Cardinal, who led the entire game and finally were able to celebrate when Ryan Appleby’s potential game-tying three pointer was well off the mark.

Jon Brockman led the Huskies with 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Quincy Pondexter chipped in with 19 points.

Mitch Johnson scored 14 points, while Brook’s twin brother Robin added 10 for the Cardinal, who close out their home schedule with an afternoon tilt against the 22nd ranked Washington State Cougars on Saturday afternoon.

Before Saturday’s game, the Cardinal will honor their three seniors, as this will be the final home game for Taj Finger, Peter Prowitt and Fred Washington, who is the final link to the 2003-2004 Cardinal team that went 30-2 in what proved to be Mike Montgomery’s final season at Stanford before heading to the Golden State for two seasons.

The Huskies cut the Cardinal lead down to just two points when Appleby hit a three pointer with 1.7 seconds remaining in the game.

Finger put the finishing touches when he hit one of two free throws for the winning margin.
