STANFORD-- The Stanford Cardinal started out with a first half lead, but the Arizona State Sun Devils came back to win their fourth straight, 68-60 Thursday.

With the loss, Stanford's 2-game winning streak ended, and they fell to 31/2 games back coupled with Cal's win over Arizona.

Arizona State's Eric Boateng led all scorers with 24 points, going a perfect 11-11 from the field, tying a Pac-10 record, his only shooting imperfection, a missed free throw. Cardinal Jeremy Green in contrast, didn't have one of his better games, as he went 2-14 from the field and 2-10 from 3-point range.

Regarding Boateng, Stanford Coach Johnny Dawkins commented, "It was one of the best games I've ever seen him play," also commenting about the game, that his team "made adjustments, which freed up other guys who were able to execute," and "sometimes the balls just don't go in." He thought they had "some good looks. It's part of the game."

Most of the Sun Devils's points came in the paint, 30 versus the Cardinal's 18. Neither team had much fast break points, 0 and 2 for the teams respectively.

Stanford's Drew Shiller started the game off with and put together three 3-pointers before he missed one. Teammate Landry Fields's free throw which made the game 4-2, gave him 600 points this season. During a 9-0 run that gave the Cardinal their biggest lead in the game, Shiller also made a shot just as the shot clock expired, followed by a steal and layup from Fields. Arizona State put together a 9-0 run as well, to bring the game to within two, 23-21, before Fields made a basket. The first half ended the way it started, with a 3-pointer, this one by Green with 5.7 seconds left, and his second one of the period, surpassing Casey Jacobsen's record of 84 beyond the arc within a season.

The teams started off the second half trading points until Boateng scored a basket and then made a free throw after personal foul on the Cardinal's Jack Trotter. A block by Arizona State was followed on the other end by what the crowd viewed as traveling but was uncalled and multiple unsuccessful attempts at a basket. Boateng finally ended the Sun Devils' possession with a bucket to bring the game to within one, 41-40. Teammate Ty Abbott then gave Arizona State their first lead in awhile, 41-42. The 10-0 rout continued with a 3-pointer, until Trotter broke it with a basket. The Sun Devils responded with an 8-0 run until Shiller made a 3-pointer. With Stanford down 54-58, there was an accidental tip-in for the Sun Devils by Fields to make it 54-60. The Cardinal got the game back to within 4 with 11.2 seconds left, but an intentional foul and a missed connection resulting in an unnecessary foul, re-extended the lead.

Game Notes: Fields is only the fifth player with at least 600 points in a season within Stanford history. The Sun Devils' biggest lead was 10 at 7:00 of the second half. Trotter's streak of scoring in double-digits ended at 3. For 283 consecutive games, Stanford has made a long distance shot. Cardinal Andrew Zimmerman reached 5 personal fouls during the game. Stanford will play Arizona State's counterpart, the Arizona Wildcats, Saturday at 5pm.
