STANFORD-With the Sixth Man Club chanting “Just Like Football,” the Stanford Cardinal completed a total sweep of their cross-bay rivals, the California Golden Bears.

If you remember back on December 1, 2007, the Cardinal defeated the Golden Bears at Stanford Stadium 20-13, and the women’s basketball a sweep of the Golden Bears by escaping Haas Pavilion on Saturday afternoon. With a narrow 60-58 victory.

Anthony Goods led the Cardinal with 20 points, while Brook Lopez added 15 and the Cardinal defeated the Golden Bears 79-69 for their ninth win in their last 10 games.

Both Mitch Johnson and Robin Lopez scored 11, as the Cardinal moved to 14-1 at the friendly confines of Maples Pavilion this season.

Ryan Anderson shot just 2-for-13 from the floor, but managed to score 15 points and pull down 11 rebounds.

Basically it was not a close game until the Golden Bears narrowed the Cardinal lead down to 64-62 with 4:47 remaining in the game.

After the Golden Bears cut the lead down to just two points, the Cardinal went on a 10-2 run that ultimately gave the Cardinal a 10-point victory.

“We were resilient in this game, thankfully,” said Trent Johnson. “They’re so good offensively, and we knew what to expect, but we responded well to their surges. Taj (Finger) and Brook both got a little banged up in all that contact underneath, but they both contributed as they always do.”

Patrick Christopher also scored 15 points for the Golden Bears.
