The battle between the Stanford Cardinal and the USC Trojans turned out be a close when it was most needed, at the end of the game.
Despite leading the Cardinal for all but three minutes of the game, almost went up in smoke, when the Cardinal came back from a 13-point deficit to cut the lead down to just three.
In the end, the Trojans proved to tough, defeating the Cardinal 69-65 in the first ever appearance for a Bay Area team at the brand new Galen Center.
Nick Young led the Trojans with 22 points, while Lodrick Stewart added 17, that included going three-for-four from three point range.
Brook Lopez scored 23 points for the Cardinal, just five days after scoring a career high 26 in an 88-69 victory over the Oregon Ducks at Maples Pavilion.
Lawrence Hill also topped the 20-point plateau, as he scored 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
With the Cardinal trailing 63-59, the Trojans had a chance to put the game away; however they were unable to hit their free throws, luckily they were able to get the ball back on two occasions.
Hill hit two free throws to cut the lead down to three at 64-61, but Young hit four free throws in the waning moments to secure the 20th win of the season for the Trojans and their 15th in 18 games at home this season.
