STANFORD-What a night for Anthony Goods to come up with one of his best games in his two years at Stanford.
The sophomore from Corona, California scored a career-high tying 30 points, including the game-winning three pointer and the Stanford Cardinal defeated the 22nd ranked Washington State Cougars 71-68 in overtime.
The game-winning three pointer by Goods spoiled the career night out of Cougars guard Kyle Weaver.
All the guard did was become the first player in Washington State history to record a triple double.
Weaver scored 14 points, grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds and had 10 assists, in addition, he also had a career-high six steals.
"It always hurts to lose, but the triple-double is nice stat line wise," said Weaver. "We fought like dogs to get to where we were. We put ourselves in position to win the game."
The thrilling finish for the Cardinal has been a common thread of late.
Since the calendar turned over to 2007, the Cardinal have been involved in four consecutive games that have come down to one possession.
They lost to CAL in the very end, when Lawrence Hill missed a three-pointer.
Hill got redemption just four days later, as he scored on a leaner with nine-tenths of a second remaining to defeat the Virginia Cavaliers 76-75.
On Thursday night, Hill came up big again, as he hit two free throws in the waning moments to defeat the Washington Huskies 78-77.
The last three pointer for Goods was his fifth of the game over Ivory Clark, and it broke a 68-68 tie that came about when Clark was fouled after hitting on a putback miss by Weaver.
Clark missed the ensuing free throw would have given the Cougars the lead, but the Cardinal got the rebound and then came Goods heroics.
"I didn't expect Clark to come out there," said Goods. "I just pulled back, with a little hesitation, and just let it go."
The Cougars were able to get off a final shot, but Daven Harmeling missed from about 50 feet away to give the Cardinal a sweep of the Washington schools this weekend.
"We played very well," said Trent Johnson. "We had some breakdowns, but I told the guys that everybody has breakdowns at times. It's how you react to that breakdown that counts."
It was a frantic finish at the end of regulation, as the Cougars went on a 10-1 run over the final 2:45 to force the extra five minutes.
Hill scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Brook Lopez added eight points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked tree shots.
It was the second 30-point game of the season for Goods, who shot 11-for-16 from the field including going 5-for-8 from three-point range.
"The basket was big for him," said Derrick Low. "When he's kind of on fire, there's really nothing you can do about it."
