Stanford’s Josh Huestis scored all 13 of his points in the second half, and the Cardinal needed them to hang on for a 68-65 Pac-12 men’s basketball win over visiting Utah Thursday at Maples Pavilion.

Chasson Randle and Josh Owens each tacked on 11 points for Stanford (14-3 overall, 4-1 Pac-12). Chris Hines netted a career-high 21 points to lead the Utes, who have lost all eight of their road games this season.

Utah slipped to 4-12 overall, 1-3 in league play.

The Utes pulled to within 66-63 when Cedric Martin hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds to play. Randle responded by sinking a pair of free throws, but Utah’s Dijon Farr was fouled while making a basket to make it 68-65.

Farr missed his free throw, but snagged his own rebound, giving the Utes one final possession. Utah missed a couple of shots as time expired.

The game featured a rare matchup of two head coaches who were former NBA teammates. Johnny Dawkins of Stanford and Larry Krystkowiak of Utah, both selected in the 1986 NBA draft, were rookie teammates with the San Antonio Spurs.
