What a strange last two games at Maples Pavilion for the Stanford Cardinal.
Just one week ago, the Cardinal saw their 13-game winning streak fall by the wayside against the California Golden Bears and just one week later, another 13-game winning streak nearly came to an end.
This time, the 24th ranked Washington Huskies were unable to break their 13-year losing at the corner of Galvez and Serra on the campus of Leland Stanford Junior University.
Anthony Goods scored 19 points, including huge two free throws with 27.5 seconds remaining, as the Cardinal defeated the Huskies 78-77.
Lawrence Hill added 18, which included an old fashioned three-point play (basket and the ensuing free throw) to help the Cardinal make a great comeback and defeat the Huskies.
This was the fourth loss in five Pac-10 games for the Huskies, who started the season with a 10-1 record.
Jon Brockman, who scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Justin Dentmon added 15 for the Huskies.
Robin Lopez scored a career-high 17 points, while his twin brother Brook added 12.
The brothers also combined to block seven shots on the evening.
NOTES: In Seattle, Jayne Appel scored 19 points and Candice Wiggins added 17, as the number 10 ranked women’s team defeated the Huskies 77-56 at Bank of America Arena.
The Cardinal improve to 13-3 on the season, and raise their record to a perfect 6-0 in conference play.
