The last time the California Golden Bears won at Maples Pavilion, Bill Clinton was not even completing his first month as President of the United States.
That season, the Golden Bears led by freshman sensation Jason Kidd demolished the Stanford Cardinal 86-61.
Fast forward nearly 14 years later, as Ayinde Ubaka scored 26 points, including seven in the final 3:32 and the Golden Bears defeated the Cardinal 67-63.
It was the first win for the Golden Bears at Maples since February 14, 1993.
Freshman Ryan Anderson, who was playing in his first game against the Cardinal added 12 and grabbed six rebounds before a sellout crowd of 7,332 at Maples.
The Cardinal’s freshman sensation Robin Lopez scored 16 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked four shots in his first ever game against the Golden Bears.
Senior Fred Washington added 12 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had seven assists.
This was the first game for the Cardinal at home since December 16 and just their second since November 28, and their record on their usually friendly home court drops to 5-3.
On the other hand, the Golden Bears played their fourth consecutive road game and will not return to Haas Pavilion until January 11 when they face the Washington State Cougars.
