After beating Washington State, 30-7, on the previous Saturday, the Golden Bears await the arrival of Oregon State on Saturday, November 12. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m., Pacific Standard Time.
In order to achieve a win that could make the difference in terms of a possible postseason bowl, Cal (now 5-4 overall and 2-4 in the Pac-12) will have to capitalize on the strengths developed in their wins against such opponents as WSU and Utah. This will mean more carries for Isi Sofele, but without becoming dangerously predictable. It will also mean Zach Maynard throwing off the opposition with more explosive quarterback keepers, a potent tool in his arsenal. C.J. Anderson showed his capability for such ground play and may be called on again, along with Will Kapp. Also, Maynard will need to cultivate more receivers than his brother Keenan Allen, and Anthony Miller may be on the receiving end of another touchdown pass.
Oregon State, losing to Stanford the previous Saturday by a score of 38-13, looks better than those numbers indicate. Key players for the Beavers will likely be James Rodgers, Scott Mannion and Malcolm Agnew. Long considered good “mudders”, OSU may receive some help from nature as rain is predicted for game day.
Cal’s remaining games, all on the road, are:
Stanford, November 19, time TBD
Arizona State, November 25, 7:15 p.m.
