Sportstalk: Former Cal running back Jahvid Best made the decision to enter the NFL draft after a spectacular career at Cal. He's looking at the NFL draft and is predicted to be in the top three running backs to be drafted. If you had to look back to a few moments of the best of Best which moments would you choose and also how long of a shot is Best from being drafted by the Raiders or 49ers?
Well, I think the Niners might be happy with the guy they have - 4 1,000 yard seasons in a row is a luxury they've never before enjoyed. The Niners could use Best as a receiver/kick returner like DeSean Jackson, I think he would be a game-breaker in that role. The Raiders???? Who could possibly predict who the Raiders will draft? All we know is, it probably won't be Best, because A) they could use him, and B) he can't throw the ball 70 yards downfield from his knees. Best is an interesting situation -- I've spoken with many people who think he will go as low as the third round because of the hip, the elbow, the concussions, and the size. I personally think that a lot of the people who didn't draft Jackson, and who have watched the career of Tim Lincecum, will be very tempted to take Jahvid Best -- I think he might go in the top half of the first round, myself, but others say nobody will risk that kind of signing bonus money on a player who has never taken the field after a major concussion. Both the Niners and Raiders will draft in the first dozen picks this year, as the Niners have Jacksonville's first round pick, if I'm not mistaken. Could be interesting.
Sportstalk: Cal head coach Joanne Boyle said that the loss to Stanford was a tough one Saturday 79-58 Saturday at Maples Pavilion and it's just a matter of regrouping for UCLA in the Southland on Friday night. Is this a matter of just facing it Stanford is a tough customer at being #2 in the nation and playing them in Palo Alto makes it that much tougher to win there how does Cal get prepared to play a team like that?
I'm out of my realm of expertise here, not having seen the Cal women's team play this year. Clearly, they have a solid program in Berkeley, with one of the better recruiting classes in the country -- but that's a lot like saying the Blue Jays have improved a whole lot, but they aren't going to beat the Red Sox or Yankees, so ... Stanford is in that category, at least while Jane Appel is there. Big, strong, solid on the boards and they can shoot. I think Cal will again be a top-of-the-conference team, just not the very top.
Sportstalk: On the other hand the Bears handled the Cardinal last Saturday in the Men's game with a 92-66 at Haas Pavilion. The Bears were led by Jerome Randle with 24 points, Max Zhang scored 13, and Omondi Amoke with 12 points all good enough to have a comfortable lead on the Cardinal. With the opening of the Pac Ten schedule do you see the Bears handling their own league where they can win the title this season?
Yes. Thank you for coming, drive home safely.
