Free agent Justin Duchscherer has opted to stay in Oakland for a seventh season. The deal was announced on Saturday.
The right-hander did not pitch in 2009 after undergoing season ending elbow surgery. Duchscherer also sought help for clinical depression.
Duchscherer is a two-time All-Star.
Duchscherer started his career in the bullpen and then moved into a starting roll in 2008. He had a record of 10-8 with an ERA 2.54 in 22 starts.
The A’s did not disclose the terms of the deal. Rumors place the deal at $2 million up to $5 million if all of the incentives are met.
A’s Sign the Best Name in Baseball
The Oakland A’s have signed Coco Crisp (the best name in the game) to a one year contract. The contract also contains club option for 2011.
Crisp’s 2009 season ended in June due to injury. In June, he had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. In July, Crisp had surgery on his left shoulder.
Crisp is a career .277 hitter with 137 stolen bases.
Crisp will bring solid skills to the outfield and consistent hitting to the top of the order. He will also add speed to the base path.
