The Texas Rangers pending celebration of its first divisional crown in over 10 years will have to wait for at least an extra day. Dallas Braden threw one-hit ball over eight innings for Oakland Thursday, as the Athletics shut out Texas 5-0 at the Coliseum.

Texas’s magic number to clinch the AL West title remains at four after Braden out-dueled Rangers ace Cliff Lee (12-9). Braden retired 19 consecutive batters in between a two-out single by Nelson Cruz in the first inning and a leadoff walk in the eighth by Ian Kinsler.

Braden (10-13) struck out seven and walked two. Brad Ziegler pitched a scoreless ninth inning to complete the shutout.

Steve Tolleson hit a pair of doubles and drove in a run for Oakland, as the A’s claimed their fourth win in the last five days. Oakland also kept its slim hopes of reaching the postseason alive, moving to within seven games of the first-place Rangers.

Jack Cust, Chris Carter and Matt Carson also drove in runs for Oakland.

A’s NOTES: Oakland outfielder Rajai Davis was a pregame scratch due to a non-baseball injury. … The A’s will have two new minor league affiliates in 2011, signing two-year development contracts with Single-A Burlington, Iowa, of the Midwest League and Short Season-A (Burlington) Vermont of the New York-Penn League. The Burlington Bees were previously an A’s affiliate from 1963-74; the Vermont Lake Monsters – as the Burlington A’s – were a minor league affiliate for the club during its final Philadelphia days.
